Other Lighthouse Information:
At one point the Waukegan Harbor lighthouse had an elevated walk made of wrought iron posts and galvanized wire rope. A two story steel fog signal building, lined with brick, was attached to the cast iron tower on the breakwater and onshore a keepers house was built. In 1967 a fire destroyed the fog signal building and the lantern room of the lighthouse. Today there’s an open light (exposed beacon) where the lens used be located. You'll often see people walking, relaxing or fishing on the breakwater.
The Lighthouse Hunters Experience:
In 2001 and 2006 we walk on the breakwater for a total of ¾ hours to take pictures of the lighthouse. Then on the beautiful, June 28, 2010 we were aboard the 110 foot
Keweenaw Star photographing 21 lighthouses for the day. We had another fantastic day on the water with our fellow lighthouse hunters from
GLLKA.
Photographed it: September 30, 2001 / September 25, 2006 / June 28, 2010
