This is the 3rd tallest lighthouse in the USA and is New Jersey's tallest lighthouse with 228 steps. It was designed by George Meade. On certain days the gates are locked so check their site for information. Many New Jersey lighthouses, including this one, take part in the annual NJ Lighthouse Challenge. Then for this fall weekend one can climb it at night. While traveling through West Atlantic City on the way towards Atlantic City, there's an easy to see Absecon Replica lighthouse on the right side of US-322/Route 9 right near the Welcome to Atlantic City sign.The Lighthouse Hunters Experience:
We've been here several times over the years. On January 9, 2007 we were both interviewed by New Jersey News-NJN about our lighthouse book. We even climbed the lighthouse with the camera guy and news reporter. The video piece was on television that night. This was for the lighthouse's 150th birthday on January 15, 2007. We had a good time and the view from the top was unique because of the tall casinos. Years ago there was an abstract lighthouse near the casinos and we took a photo of it on May 20, 2003.
